NRN's unique business model allows us to help customers save on their energy bills without the upfront investment of purchasing a solar and battery system. We partner with solar installers to install solar and battery systems at no cost to customers. To enable this, we charge a small NRN Direct daily fee to access and use the system.
To help customers save even more, we’ve partnered with Alinta Energy on a tailored plan. When customers choose this plan, Alinta Energy covers the NRN Direct daily access fee for the solar and battery system. In return, they receive access to some of the energy the system generates, which helps them deliver greater value through their energy plan. To help customers save even more, we partner with energy retailers who offer bespoke energy plans.

Installing a solar and battery system requires no upfront cost or financing. While you're on the Alinta Energy Solar Together Program, the cost of accessing the solar and battery system is seamlessly included in your electricity bill. This covers the full cost of the system, including installation, maintenance, and performance management.
If you switch to a non-partner energy retailer, you don't lose your solar system. You'll automatically move to NRN Direct, maintaining full access to your solar and battery system while accessing a cleaner energy mix.
As an NRN Direct customer, there a daily fee to cover the cost, installation, and ongoing maintenance of the solar and battery assets. This ensures you continue receiving full system and performance management and it will be in addition to any grid energy usage with your non-partner energy retailer.

You can purchase the solar and battery system anytime during your agreement including if you decide to sell your house. The system's purchase price is $0, from day one, and each month, the price automatically reduces by $0 reflecting the system's ongoing usage. To simplify the process, NRN will provide a comprehensive Purchase Pack with all the essential details, including warranties, maintenance reports, and confirmation of the seamless hardware transfer. NRN ensures everything is straightforward and transparent so you can make a decision that suits you.

The NRN agreement runs for 12 years, during which we maintain, monitor, and service the solar and battery system, ensuring it performs at its best with no upfront costs or maintenance worries.
At the end of the 12-year term, ownership of the system transfers to you. It's that simple.
If your circumstances change, you also have the option to purchase the system earlier. Just contact us at [email protected] or call 1800 595 348, and we'll provide the current buyout figure based on the time elapsed and system performance.
Whether you stay for the whole term or decide to purchase earlier, we're here to support you every step of the way, with a model designed to be flexible, fair, and future-ready.

We understand that circumstances can change, and you may decide to end your agreement. There are two main options available if you choose to exit the Alinta Energy Solar Together Program early:
1. Purchase the System: You can purchase the solar and battery system at any time during your agreement, including if you're moving or simply wish to own the system outright.
- The system has a fixed purchase price from day one, which reduces monthly based on a standard depreciation schedule. So, the longer you're in the Alinta Energy Solar Together Program , the lower the buyout cost becomes.
- There is no early termination fee when you purchase the system.

2. Remove the System: If you choose not to purchase the system and wish to have it removed, an early termination fee will apply. This fee covers the cost of safely uninstalling and decommissioning the system and is typically higher than the system buyout price.

1. Application Assessment
NRN will review your application and notify you of the outcome. Upon approval, you'll receive a secure link to complete your enrollment onto the Alinta Energy Solar Together Program.
2. Energy Plan Enrollment
Once you receive your Solar Together Program link, use it to complete your application with Alinta Energy. If you're approved, you'll be moved onto the Solar Together rates immediately — even before your system is installed!
3. Smart Meter Upgrade
Alinta Energy will coordinate your smart meter installation. Timely completion is essential to maintain your plan eligibility. Please alert Alinta Energy to any issues accessing your electricity meter during your signup.
4. Solar & Battery System Installation
Following smart meter installation, your installer will schedule installation of your solar and battery system setup and the metering that records the power produced by your system.
5. System Activation
Your solar and battery system goes live shortly after installation. No additional steps are required—your Alinta Energy plan continues seamlessly with your new renewable energy setup.

When you join NRN Direct, we ask you to provide your bank details securely through GoCardless.
This may seem unusual, especially since we've informed you that there's no cost for the solar and battery system, installation, or maintenance. And that's true, if you remain on an approved NRN energy retailer partner plan, you'll never be charged for the system.
However, if you choose to leave one of our approved energy retailers but continue using the solar and battery system, you will be required to pay a usage fee directly to NRN. GoCardless is the tool we use to collect that payment if that situation arises.
Here's what you need to know:
- There is no upfront cost.
- You will not be charged unless you leave your NRN-approved energy retailer partner plan.
- If a charge is ever needed, you'll be notified in advance.
- GoCardless is a secure and trusted service used by thousands of Australian organisations.
Providing your bank details now ensures the system remains in place if you ever decide to switch plans, and helps us keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.
